In 2007, the PBS documentary The Rise of the Southern Biscuit won two Emmy's and three Telly awards, she also interviewed Southern biscuit makers in her book, The Biscuit Dive Guide. She discovered how popular the topic of the Southern biscuit was and how fond memories where tied to this culinary icon of the South. However, at the same time, she discovered the tradition of baking biscuits homemade in the Southern kitchen was dying in the South.
Southern Belle Biscuit Company
Southern Belle Biscuit Company is founded by Maryann Byrd of Nashville Tennessee. She is an award winning journalist known for her PBS Documentary on the Southern Biscuit. After baking thousands of biscuits and teaching others how to bake a great Southern biscuit; Maryann decided to develop a line of biscuit flour and mixes that take the pitfalls out of biscuit baking and keeps the best part in..the "in the kitchen hot homemade" aspect of the time honored Southern tradition. It was top priority to have the flour sourced from the Southern farms and it be top quality, so bakers can enjoy biscuit making success. Everything in the Southern Belle Biscuit baking line is tested for quality and to aid in the one thing the South is known for; and that is making that biscuit R I S E and be tall.
